Last summer, we picked up a small organic starter plant at the local farmers market and planted it in the raised bed. It grew so fast and took over! We had no idea when to harvest the fruit, and waited for the watermelon to grow a little bigger than the size of a basketball with a little yellow underneath. Next year, we will be careful to grow watermelon in an area where it can spread out.
