yellowstone, glacier, & yosemite national parks

This year on August 25, 2016, the National Parks Service celebrates 100 years. Over the past year since last August, I have visited Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Glacier National Park in Montana, and Yosemite National Park in California.

Driving the road to the sun through Glacier National Park was beautiful beyond belief. I am so glad I had a chance to see the glaciers before they are gone. Yellowstone National Park was filled with perfect moments of peacefulness and overwhelmed me with awe of our natural world. During my time in Montana and Wyoming I saw bears, wolves, fox, bison, elk, pronghorn, mountain goats, and many different birds. In California at Yosemite National Park, I loved the “painted” rock walls that seemed to go straight up for miles, and I spotted a few coyote and mule deer.

I had never been to the Northern Plains and Big Sky part of the country before. I screened a new film and spoke at the University of Montana, traveled from Missoula to the First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park and Great Falls, then the Highwood Mountains, Fort Benton, on to Big Sandy to film a new video for the Climate Listening Project, then to Blackfeet Nation and to Glacier National Park. Then, I traveled to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming south through the western entrance, up to the northern entrance, and stopping in Bozeman before traveling back over the western continental divide.

I had been to the amazing old growth redwood forests at Muir Woods National Monument, but I had never been to Yosemite. I feel so lucky. I rafted down the river through Yosemite Valley with a group of Oscar-winning documentary film makers and thought leaders, taking in the views, and brainstorming a new film and campaign.

Here’s a few photos from my travels.
